This morning (Thursday) Heal the Ocean executive director Hillary Hauser made a special 15 minute presentation to the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board on her organization’s California Ocean Wastewater Discharge Inventory, published mid 2010 to great reviews. Such presentations to the Regional Board are by invitation only. With a powerpoint created by HTO Junior Council Programs Director Megan O’Meara, Hillary showed how Google “fly-to” maps take the viewer right to the sites of Pacific Ocean wastewater treatment plants as well as their outfalls – from the Oregon border to Tijuana Mexico. HTO researchers spent 5 years putting together the report, with the aim of helping governing bodies understand the importance of moving forward with wastewater recycling in California. Read the report HERE, and try out the Google “Fly To” map HERE!
