Montecito Groundwater Basin Recharge Feasibility Study

September 25, 2015

Heal the Ocean recently organized a joint study, conducted by Dudek environmental consulting, and sponsored in partnership with Montecito Water District and Montecito Sanitary District to examine the feasibility of recharging the Montecito groundwater basin with highly treated recycled water.

While the study concluded that a groundwater recharge project with recycled water was not feasible in Montecito, these results have led to renewed attention to a conventional tertiary recycled water project for landscape irrigation in Montecito. The Central Coast Regional Water Board recently asked for full evaluation of such a supply, and we are working with and encouraging the districts in implementing such a study.
