How Your Contribution Helps Heal the Ocean

As surfers, swimmers, divers, boaters, beachgoers, and all-around ocean lovers, Heal the Ocean and its team of 3,000 supporters believes we can no longer misuse the ocean.

When things are not right in the ocean, it is in each and every one of our natures to do something about it. No matter where we live, we must act to protect the ocean because, in the end, we are all connected to the ocean, and it connects us all.

For over twenty years, Heal the Ocean has collaborated with City, Regional, and State governments on important infrastructure projects that remove pollution sources from the ocean, thus furthering our cause to ensure our ocean waters are clean and safe for the health of humans and for all sea life. When you give to Heal the Ocean, you can be assured your contribution directly helps to reduce pollution sources to the ocean, namely by upgrading wastewater infrastructure and septic-to-sewer projects, reducing groundwater pollution, as well as Styrofoam and trash pollution. We urgently need your help to support additional:

  • Engineering Studies - Consulting engineers are instrumental in helping us gauge costs of septic-to-sewer projects, wastewater upgrades, and other clean-water projects which is necessary for State grant funding, and to assist homeowners in making upgrades;

  • Outside Contract Help on Projects - HTO adds paid manpower to local, regional, and State projects whether initiated by us or an agency, to move projects forward, i.e., a 3-year assessment of the Santa Ynez groundwater basin, conducted with Regional Water Quality Control Board, with HTO providing staff help at RWQCB office; we moved the Summerland oil well capping forward with sophisticated aerial infrared photography to pinpoint wellheads; hired experts with sophisticated diving equipment to further help State Lands Commission engineers, etc.

  • Legal Counsel - Before we take action on suggested changes to local, regional, or State policy affecting water resources and ocean protection, we consult with expert legal counsel.
