HARRY RABIN RECEIVES CELEBRATED NOGI AWARD TONIGHT!

Harry Out in the Field Helping the Ocean

The NOGI Award is considered the “Oscar of Diving”- a term given by Titanic director James Cameron, who won the award in 1999 for the Arts category. It is given annually in by the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences, an international, non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing ocean leaders in the fields of Art, Distinguished Services, Environment, Science, and Sports-Education.

This year, the NOGI for Environment is being awarded to Heal the Ocean’s own Harry Rabin, who will receive his award TONIGHT, Wednesday, November 2, in Orlando, Florida, during a formal banquet at the Rosen Centre Hotel ballroom. He is being recognized for his underwater film work through his company On the Wave Productions, and for his work as Heal the Ocean’s Program Supervisor.

Harry is a hero to us for his hard work which includes: removing crashed boats from Santa Barbara beaches, mapping homeless camps to facilitate help for the camp residents, removing abandoned camp trash from beaches and watersheds, working with State Lands Commission engineers on identifying exact positions of leaking oil wells off Summerland Beach – and more. Congratulations, Harry! We salute you!

(Note: HTO is well recognized internationally…Executive Director Hillary Hauser won the NOGI for Distinguished Service in 2009.)

HTO CELEBRATES VETERANS & PCVF SILVER ANNIVERSARY

Veterans Day is Friday, November 11, 2022, and to celebrate all veterans from all wars, as well as all active duty service members, the Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation (PCVF) is staging its Annual Military Ball this weekend, on Friday, November 5, 2022 at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort.

This year it is a special occasion: It is PCVF’s 25th year since Pierre Claeyssens established the foundation in Santa Barbara, which means this is a Silver Anniversary. To contribute to the celebration, and the hard work of Executive Directors John & Hazel Blankenship, Heal the Ocean is contributing to the occasion by taking the back cover of the evening program.

From all of us at Heal the Ocean to all of you, thank you, remember to thank a veteran, and please stay safe.

Hillary Hauser, Executive Director
