HTO is soon to announce an exciting new program No More Styrofoam in the Trash to rid landfills – and the ocean – of this lethal stuff that never disappears from the marine life chain. TOPA TOPA BREWING CO. & HEAL THE OCEAN FILM NIGHT WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14

We are so excited and honored that Topa Topa Brewing Co. has selected Heal the Ocean as its 1% For the Planet partner from July through December 2019! From now until the end of the year - over the next six months - HTO and Topa Topa will be hosting events at their taprooms around town.

Our first event is two weeks from now - Wednesday, August 14, 2019, from 6:30-8:30 PM - and is a film screening of "Crossing the Channel" and Q&A with marathon swimmer Rachel Horn and filmmaker Ryan Slattery. Please come, grab a beer, and meet Rachel's Relay Team--Marcie's Mermaids--who will be swimming across the Santa Barbara Channel on September 19, 2019, in memory of Marcie Kjoller for Heal the Ocean (see below for details). In addition to great Topa Topa beer and an inspiring film, you will be with lots of friends and fellow ocean lovers. Topa Topa is at 120 Santa Barbara Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101...We'll see you there!

So many of us live here because we enjoy spending time in the water – whether it’s surfing, swimming, diving or paddling. It’s something we all share. This year our community lost an incredibly kind and talented person, Marcie Kjoller, an accomplished waterwoman who supported Heal the Ocean for many years. In memory of her life and love for the ocean and this community, friend and local marathon swimmer Rachel Horn has created a relay team, "Marcie's Mermaids" (with Liz Boscacci, Hilary McAvoy, Chelsea Jones, Heather Royer, & Emily Case) who will be swimming 19 miles across the Santa Barbara Channel on September 19, 2019 in an effort to raise funds for Heal the Ocean in Marcie’s memory. Marcie's Mermaids will swim from Santa Cruz Island to Oxnard Beach, braving the cold water and the 10+ hour swim without wetsuits. All of the ladies doing this swim love the ocean and spend most of their free time in our local waters year round. They are tough, awesome women and want everyone to remember Marcie’s life and celebrate her love of the ocean. They will be accompanied by a support team for their safety, and are aiming to raise $10,000 to support Heal the Ocean’s work to keep our waters clean for all the people and animals who live and love this place we call home.

HERE COMES FIESTA - PLEASE DITCH THE CONFETTI!

This week marks the beginning of Fiesta - Thursday through Sunday. Please, please be confetti conscious for the ocean. PLEASE refrain from buying full bags of confetti to throw around willy-nilly...(this is in fact considered littering, a ticketed offense).
