3 days of trash picked up by Maire Radis (HTO Advisory) and her son, Will; during the weekend of June 25-June-27 – at Santa Claus Beach
Everyone is in a party mood – we’ve been liberated from the Pandemic, we can go outside, we can be with our friends. How suitable that a first real celebration after being let out of quarantine is INDEPENDENCE DAY.
We wish everyone to have a great time with friends and family, but please be mindful of your Mother Earth. Plastic bags were ubiquitous during the pandemic, but they continue on unnecessarily.
Takeout has become a disconcerting source of this plastic pollution and waste. If you are getting takeout for the beach or park, please consider taking your own bag, saying no to plastic utensils and straws, and particularly those little packets of condiments (ketchup, etc.) you don’t need.
HTO has provided extra MarBorg trash cans at some County beaches, and still, we can’t keep up with this explosion of trash! The above pictures illustrate what happens when people don’t care – and when they use the beach cans for their personal garbage dump as well. Please remember, if the trash can is full, pack out your trash and leave no trace.
Let us be grateful we’re nearing the side of freedom from Covid, but let us also be grateful for our Earth, and work together in respect.
NOTE: We beseech you to ditch the fireworks - Santa Barbara County is in an extreme drought/fire condition! ADDITIONALLY, we know many people who have lost beloved pets when fireworks go off. PLEASE take care of them!
